In the piece TORNADO, Szakats explores themes of the Apocalypse without recurring to the classic religious iconography but instead focussing on the aspect of its brewing destructive forces. Apparently departing from her usual soft and intimate motifs, she applies this theme to intimate relationships and havoc they can create in our lives. The pieces depict the essence of tornadoes as metaphorical forces, showing their gradual escalation from quiet beginnings to full unleashed destructive power.
The works represent these meteorological phenomena seen from a distant perspective, as if observed through a satellite image, playing like in the other works in the exhibition with perspective, closeness and distance. The portal-like composition of these three pieces suggests a borehole or entry point, reproducing a motif also present in her other pieces.
