Barry Reigate, born 1971 in London, is best known for his distinctive, anarchic paintings and drawings which take in aspects of illustration, street and poster art, punk and DIY music fanzines, and abstract expressionism as seen through the filter of a daydream meets nightmare hallucinogenic haze. In his new sculptures, characters appear to have torn themselves free of the canvas and stepped into the landscape still apparently dripping with paint, or perhaps formed of the very primal ooze of the artists imagination.
British artist Barry Reigate (b. 1971) studied at Camberwell College of Arts (1990-93) and Goldsmiths University (1995-97). He has had solo shows in London at Nang Gallery (2009), Paradise Row (2008) and Trolley Gallery (2006), and shown his work in numerous places around the world from California to St Petersburg. Group shows include ‘Rude Britannia: British Comic Art’ Tate Gallery 2010, ‘Newspeak: British Art Now’ Saatchi Gallery 2010.
