In an unsettling confrontation one comes face to face with exaggerated features cast in clear resin, oozing in a captured state of entropy that distorts the setting behind. A chair-like structure of aluminium, made more skeletal by a gesturing disembodied hand, provides the framework for recurring flame motifs of uncertain narrative, which provide sharp points of colour.
In his first outside sculpture, Dordolo retains many of the features of his gallery works, where the physical attributes of his chosen media are allowed to emanate their rich material gestures. Reflecting his interest in process, here the artist gives permission for the resin to interact with the elements outside, allowing it to be potentially captured in another state of change, and draws humorous comparison of scale and medium between the artificial frame-trees and the natural growth of the location.
The work combines rigid aluminium construction with polyester resin casting, epoxy clay, plaster and acrylic paint, all the time being transparent about how these elements are fashioned and presented.
