Mao’s practice is informed by a background in construction and metal fabrication, interwoven with personal experience where the history of material production and their alteration becomes a medium for language or narrative. He questions our surroundings to expose and shed new light upon the relationship between the body and architecture, concentrating on power play through properties of restraint or domination, to expose the visceral.
