Portraying the British politician Penny Mordaunt, this painting centers around an object frequently depicted in the media. The red leather folder is represented with a tactile materiality, conveying to the viewer its distinct textural quality. Shifting the focus from the celebrity to a mundane, banal item, the object is elevated to subject. Milenkovic puts into place a perspectival play in her works: the objects become subjects and the subjects become objects. Originally coming from Serbia and residing in England, the artist has developed a fascination with the local media and its portrayal of celebrity figures. She often represents anti-heroes, redirecting the focus from the main characters to the societal frameworks and conditions that gave rise to their existence.
