This sculpture formed by leather straps entwined around a nickel-plated armature, resembles a human rib cage. In its allusion to the body, the sculpture appears to beckon the viewer to contemplate the practical application of the leather straps, which appear tailored for a human body. The straps and their arrangement allude to both the human form and the metal armature of an architectural tower, while the word “coil" in the title hints simultaneously at technology, as in an electrical conductor, and at the constraint of physical devices that limit a person's ability to move, referencing BDSM practices.
