Röcker's practice straddles a variety of media - plaster, clay, wood, terra sigillata, bronze, aluminium – but the resulting work always bears the physical imprint of the sculptor's action. His sculptures have a preoccupation with the idea of the void, with with occupying it, giving mass to it, or with examining the space around it, supporting or enclosing it. He has described his work as "using the hollow of the hand to lend volume to the void" an idea reminiscent of that attributed to Michelangelo that "every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it." This sense of the artist as a conduit, that there is a direct transferal that takes place between artist and artwork is perhaps the crux of Röcker's practise.
