The series of cow's tongues, a culinary motif with transcultural resonance, are the main elements that inspired this whole body of work in the exhibition An array of disruptions and codependencies. Rather than a cerebral reaction, the artist intentionally seeks to evoke a visceral response from the audience, prompting immediate personal connections, as viewers contemplate their own tongues. Yet, this visceral connection is altered by the sculpture's larger-than-life and unusual presentation, triggering an uncanny reaction and abjection. Abjection arises when we come to the realisation that these severed bovine tongues, are fundamentally identical to our own tongues, representing a shared connection with our primal, animalistic nature. As we follow this line of transference, the disembodied cow transcends its literal form and could symbolise any body, or a mythical creature like a lion or a dragon. Additionally, there's a subtle religious undertone associated with the representation of the tongue, also present in its inspiration from the 1980s body modification movement, which provided an alternative spiritual path via the alteration of the physical body.
