This large-scale painting has a peculiar shape which follows the pair of figures emerging from a primordial vessel. The two bodies are fused and in the process of separation. They appear to rise from an accumulation and stratification of human-like elements and body parts, like eyes. The canvas itself twists to follow the characters’ contours. Both figures wear prosthetic noses and elaborate patched-up costumes to disguise their true selves, suggesting a theatricality, a performance of identity.
