Spring Drinking represents a figure whose hat spirals into a vortex, drawing the viewer into a hypnotic state. The character wears a red wig and matching prosthetic eyebrows, in an attempt at hiding its identity. The figure is both absurd and solemn, like a kind of officer or someone who is in charge of delivering a mysterious and incomprehensible ritual. The surface bears the sign of time, as the painting has been reworked for several years before completion.
