The fashion designer turned artist is giving her old materials new context.
Over the past few years it’s become clear that wool has been something of an underestimated material in the creative world. Often sidelined as quaint and old-fashioned, the meteoric rise of the graphic jumper and the boom in independent knit artists have proven that it’s not only a versatile textile, but a cool one too. Maria Szakats, however, has taken things one step further, using brushed wool to create her intriguing, fluffy and blurry ‘paintings’.
